Gumboot Friday

Kia Ora Everyone,

Today is Gumboot Friday. For Gumboot Friday we got into partners and learnt about each other, we then learnt about the Five Ways to Connect. First is to Take Notice, Connect, Be Active, Keep Learning and Give. Today we have done the first two, Take Notice and Connect. Something new I’ve learnt is that the creator of Gumboot Friday, Mike King had also once suffered from Mental Health Issues.

Gumboot Friday, is introduced for those with Mental Health issues. Mike King, who is the creator of Gumboot Friday, once suffered from Mental Health Issues. Mike King, helps those with Mental Health Issues, especially young people. With the help of Gumboot Friday, those with Mental Health have been improving. However, New Zealand has a high rate of suicide.

Google Earth Landmarks

Today for Cybersmart we were doing more blogging about landmarks in Auckland, New Zealand. We first chose 6 Landmarks in Auckland then searched them up on Google Earth, label it then add it to our project. Once we’ve done that we used our own description of the landmark and put it into the description. After putting in our own description we were supposed to add in a picture of the landmark.

New Zealand Location

Today for Cybersmart,

We were labelling the places in the North and South Island in New Zealand. We used an app called ‘Google My Map’, I first made a layer called North Island then I labelled the landmarks into the North and South Islands. Then I did the same to the South Island.

Check out my map!

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Kia Ora Everyone,

Today for Cybersmart my class and I made an animation about a story called The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We had to first pick a part to make an animation of, then we made slides and added different shapes to make our animation. The part I chose was the gardens and then the tall fences. I first made the flowers and the bench, and in the distance are tall fences.

Check out my animation!

Beating the Wind

On Monday my class and I read a story called Beating the Wind by Bronwen Wall, It was about how aerodynamic works and the positions cyclists have to be in to get through the aerodynamic drag. For this activity we had answer some questions related to the story, this story was also based on real people.

I found this activity kind of easy because I could just read through the story again to get to my answer. Check out my activity!

What are Double Glazed Windows ?

Hi Everyone,

For Inquiry my class and I have been looking at Double Glazed windows, we have been looking at Double glazed windows because it apart of what we have also been learning called a Technological Process. A technological process are technologies that have changed overtime.

A double glazed window is made by two panes of glass that are separated by thick air. The use of a Double glazed windows are to help keep your house warm from the cold temperature. While the cold weather is coming inside your house, Double Glazed windows are helping you keep warm. Double glazed windows were made around the 1930’s created by an American inventor. Something I have learnt from our Inquiry work are the uses of a double glazed window. Something I have learnt from our Inquiry learning are the uses of a Double Glazed window.

For our work we had to get into groups, in our groups we would pair up to find out what Double Glazed Windows are and other windows are and the uses of them. Check it out!

Samoan Language Week

Talofa Lava everyone and welcome to Samoan Language Week! This week for Samoan Language week we have been looking at a traditional method of cooking food with Pacific Islands. We’ve also learnt that an umu mostly uses a thermal energy.

Today we first started off with prayer, then headed downstairs to take a picture with everyone in their own cultural clothes. Once we were finished taking photos we all went to the court to play a fun Samoan game called Kilikiti, Kilikiti is also played like baseball, but instead of using an ordinary ball they would use a ball made of hard rubber. You have to hit the ball and run the first base and around the square to get a home run and help your team win.

After playing, we went inside and separated the girls and boys to dance with some Samoan songs. It wasn’t very difficult for us boys to do because we didn’t have to learn it by heart and it wasn’t too long to learn.

Something I learnt was the Samoan dance me and the girls in my class did, something I enjoyed was the umu that the staff and other people from my school did.

Smart Footprint – Scenarios

Kia Ora,

Today for our work we had groups of three and took photos of different scenarios. While reading those scenarios we also learnt not to share private information online.

There were three scenarios, and my group and I chose to blog one of them. The scenario we chose to blog about was not sharing your private information. My group and I had to make a freeze frame, a freeze frame is where you make up a scenario and take a photo of it as you are making a movie. But just a photo.

My group and I first decided what we should do to make it look like the scenario. We tried different attempts but they didn’t work out, but then we got an idea to just pretend like we were putting the phone number in.

After taking a photo of what you shouldn’t when a random number has asked you to put private information somewhere. We took another photo for the right decision. Which is declining the offer.

Check out the pictures!

Template Poster

Kia Ora,

Another Cybersmart activity we had to do was a poster of ourselves. In my poster I included a picture of myself and a family photo and things I really like or enjoy.

I put a picture of netball, because it is one of my favourite sports. Silver Ferns are also one of my favourite Netball teams, my favourite player is Maria Folau.

I added a picture of a Lavender because it is my favourite type of flower. Beside it is a cross which resembles Jesus, because he died for us on the cross!

I also put flags from I am from.

Check it out!

What we share – Cybersmart Challenge

For today’s cybersmart challenge, we learnt about what we can share online and what is private.

For example your Home Address, because of you and your families safety it is not good to share where you and your whanau live.

But things that you can post online are your favourite sports, and what you like to learn about.

Take a look at my blog so you can see what is safe to post, and what should be kept private
